OHIO SR-22 FILING
In Ohio, Do I Need an SR-22 Filing? Or is it called SR-22 Insurance?
In Ohio, it is illegal to drive any motor vehicle without car insurance, and it is illegal for a vehicle owner to allow anyone else to drive his or her motor vehicle without car insurance.
If a driver failed to show proof at a traffic stop or at an accident, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) will impose a non-compliance suspension on that driver and/or vehicle owner. The Ohio BMV will require the individual to file an SR-22 as part of their reinstatement requirements.
An SR-22 filing is not an actual insurance policy, which is a common misconception. An SR-22 is a filing, or an add-on, that is added to a personal automobile liability insurance policy, although owning a vehicle is not a requirement. Not all insurance carriers offer SR-22 filings.
